Antique Victorian 9ct Gold Hair Work Glass Locket Necklace
Antique Victorian 9ct gold glass locket. This pendant is very unusual, glass lockets are not common to find . The beautiful piece features delicately woven hair. Hair of a loved one was used as decoration in jewellery during the Victorian era. Hair work jewellery is highly collectable, precious and sentimental. The pendant hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain.
The bale of the locket unscrews, loosening the glass panes allowing you to place a picture, lock of hair or a thin momento would be able to fit into this locket.
The bail on the locket is not original as it is gold plated on a base metal.
The pendant is hallmarked with the number '375', '9', Anchor and the letter 'I' indicating the piece was hallmarked in 1857-1858 Birmingham. The piece 9ct yellow gold.
The pendant hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain measuring 18". The locket is in excellent condition, measuring 3.2cm / 1.2" (including bale) in height and 2.3cm / 0.9" in width.
The pendant is in excellent antique condition, the glass on the hair side has some fine scratches which are not easily visible. When opening locket extra must be taken to not damage the hair, a picture can easily be placed into the other side. The bail is slightly worn on the front and the back.

Our antique and vintage earrings are one-of-a-kind pieces which vary in size. To understand the size of a pair of earrings we included an illustration below for the drop of an earring.
Type of Earrings
Throughout history earring styles have changes from delicate Edwardian screws to showstopping 1980's pieces.
Wire Back: Until the late 1800s fish hook or shepherd hook earrings were the most popular style of earring. These types of earrings are confortable and secure to wear.
Screw Back: Screw back earrings were invented in 1894 this allowed women to wear earrings without piecing their ears. The earring back has a screw which applies pressure to the earlobe to keep the earring in place.
Clip On: Clip on earrings started to became popular in the 1920's up to the 1980's. Wearing clip on earrings is particular good if the earrings are very large, as they do not drag the ear lope down. A clip earring is spring-loaded to confortably hold the earring on the earlobe.
We offer returns and gift wrapping, if the earrings you have chosen is the incorrect size you can easily send it back to us. If you need any help contact Tiffany & Gillian via email email@example.com or call us on 07939212983 to discuss earring sizing options.
