Georgian jewellery is highly sought after. The Goldsmiths of this period were highly skilled.


Our stunning antique Georgian ring features white seed pearls and large flat cut garnet gemstones set in 9ct yellow gold. In the centre of the ring is a glass panel with a beautiful piece of hair work secured inside.


Mourning jewellery dates back to the 16th century, it became popular in the Victorian era when Prince Albert passed away when Queen Victoria went into mourning. The most interesting pieces of mourning jewellery include hair work, which was not necessarily from the deceased much of the hair was imported from Europe to keep up with demand. It was used to created a connection between a decreased loved one.


This special ring was originally a brooch, it was converted from a brooch into a ring. The shank was handmade from 9ct yellow gold.

CONDITION

The ring is in excellent antique condition. There is a tiny piece of gold missing from around one of the garnets. Our Goldsmith cannot repair this due to the age of the piece however the garnet is secure. Rings like this are designed for special occasions, as it is very old care should be taken.
