Antique Edwardian drop earrings set in sterling silver featuring marcasites and amethyst gemstones. These stunning earrings features two French Imperial Eagles surrounded by flowers set in marcasites with a central amethyst stone. At the bottom of the earrings is a large beautiful tear drop shaped amethyst with a halo of marcasite stones.

 

These earrings are particular special due to the fact the back of the piece has also been decorated with detailed engravings. The engraver has highlighted the birds feathers, the flower petals and framed the tear drop stone at the bottom.

 

Marcasites are actually Pyrite also known as Fools Gold. It was used in jewellery due to it's ability to catch the light, giving a diamond effect.

 

The earrings feature a wire earring setting, they are easy and comfortable to wear. These earrings work really well with evening dresses as they catch the light beautifully in low lit settings.

 

HISTORY

The French Imperial Eagle refers to the figure of an eagle on a staff carried into battle as a standard by the Grande Armée of Napoleon I during the Napoleonic Wars.
