Vintage Art Deco Cameo Marcasite Silver Ring

£120.00 GBP

Cameo jewellery became very popular in the early 19th century cameos features Roman women. Victorian women on the Grand Tour brought home these pieces from places such as Italy and Greece.

Our beautiful vintage ring features a beautiful carved face set into a shell. The cameo is set into a silver setting with sparkling marcasite stones.

The 'stone' known as Marcasite is actually pyrite. Pyrite is cut into small pointed or rounded facets to create marcasites. Their lustre is metallic and their brilliance comes from light reflecting off of the facets.  Marcasites were a fashionable alternative for diamonds as early as the 1700s. Marcasites were fashion in the mid-1800s seeing a revival in the 1920s/30s.
