Details

Victorian (1837-1901) sterling silver brooch with faux glass pearls and glass turquoise. The brooch features a line of glass stones set in sterling silver. The brooch has the hallmark 'STERLING' indicating the metal type. The open 'c' clasp and sharp brooch pin indicates the brooch was manufactured in the Victorian era.

For the Victorian's a turquoise gemstone was thought to preserve sight and protect from injury. Even today in the north-east, there is a proverb stating 'That a Turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune'. Additionally pearls had multiple meanings, primarily they were associated with 'beauty'.

The brooch is in excellent antique condition, measuring 3cm / 1.1" in length and 0.7cm / 0.2" in width.
